Creativity Counts Workshops this Fall

Well, where did our summer go? I don't know about you, but ours flew by and now it is time to start thinking about back to school, upcoming workshops, events, etc.

One of my projects that is near to my heart is called The Creativity Counts Project and I call it that because creativity is indeed very important. Over the course of the thirteen years I have been teaching arts and crafts classes, I have witnessed the power of the creative process. Increase in self esteem, increased relaxation and friendship building, etc. Through my work at Clipper Street Scrapbook Co. ,I have come to realize that artist's/crafter's always seem to have excess products taking up space. After hearing repeatedly from customer's, "where can I get rid of this stuff", I decided to give them a place to donate it—to me. Earlier this year, I started to reach out to local non-profits with the offer of arts and crafts classes free-of-charge (including the supplies). I thought many of these organizations are operating within a strict budget and staff members could be too busy to offer art programs. I am thrilled to be starting an 11 week program with Options BC Settlement program to offer a Learning English through Crafting. These classes will begin in September and are open to the clients within the settlement program. September will be a busy month, since I have also arranged to teach Art Journaling workshops at the Carnegie Community Centre on the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver. These are both new experiences for me and I look forward to combining my passion for creating with my passion for helping those in need.

The generosity of the customers at Clipper Street and local businesses that have donated products for these workshops is overwhelming. A big thank you to Opus Art Supplies for donating some acrylic paint for workshops. I couldn't even consider offering these workshops without the kindness of people in the Lower Mainland community. There are so many wonderful people with big hearts out there and I am so thankful.

Watch this blog and the website for updates on how these classes are going. Enjoy the rest of August!
