What started as comment by my Husband, turned into a grassroots Christmas cheer campaign called the Oatmeal Project. A simple comment on a Facebook post led to a lovely written piece on our local newspaper's website, which you can read here.
The photo below is our group before we started to walk our route, it was a very chilly morning. It actually took me almost took a full day to warm up and to lose the achy muscles from being cold. So I cannot imagine what it must be like to live in those conditions, I just can't fathom it. It was such a special experience, one which we got more out of than we gave. Which is usually the case when sharing kindness with others. The people we met were so grateful and I was so thankful we were able to share a little warmth in our community. The people in this photo (along with others not in photo) answered my call for help and put together snack packs, bags of socks, scarves and other essentials. Words cannot express how thankful I am to know such big-hearted people. This experience will be my favourite of the Christmas season.
I have another project idea up my sleeve for February and I hope I can make it happen. Wishing you the best this holiday season.
